Bless, Freestyle (Arsonists), Shaqueen and many more.
BABY
J presents BIRTH
"Nature has taught us that as any
species or form evolves it eventually controls its' own growth and if it becomes
harmful to the environment around it, it will destroy itself and a new species
will be born"
Producer Baby J has built a liaison
with some of the creme of the New York hip-hop world who have been brought
together by the love of the culture rather than politics and record labels.
In these turbulent times when the music of the people has become stifled &
muted the Birth album brings a voice back to the community. "Recording Birth
was like a family get together, and family is some shit that be gettin' fucked
up in the 90's. All the MC's came through spittin' mad wisdom and love, and
these are some of the strongest weapons in this war" stated Baby J. When asked
about the Birth LP and his envolvement in music he responded "This is what
we here to do. We only got two ways of being heard, through our music, or
by being on that foul savage shit. When you understand that this music is
ours, that we control this voice, it becomes clear, that the rules and boundaries
set up by outsiders don't apply to us." This attitude is demonstrated in Baby
J's music and production techniques, where, rather than just taking an old
break and looping it he often works entirely from sounds and playing & building
melodies and beats from scratch. Another example of him having no regard for
the "rules" is on the tracks "War Trilogy" and "Angels of Death" where the
songs have been deliberately distorted and muffled to present a raw, dirty
feel.
For My Army - A-Alikes Coming from the People's Army this strong duo
(Ness & K) open the album with this hard hitting track. Saviour - Poetic
"I'm about to reak havic on the beats this year / Labels ain't trying to promote
this here / Commercial radio shows, they just don't care / The saviour of
the rap world, just appeared..." pumps the the hook of this underground anthemn
by Gravedigga member Poetic (Grim Reaper). This particular track is the A
side of the lead off single for the Birth album and will also be featured
on Poetic's upcoming solo LP.
Truth - Shaqueen (feat. Omen
and Shabazz the Disciple) New Yorks hottest new female MC rips the mic
with Omen and Shabazz the Disciple who hold back no punches when exposing
the industry for what it is. The God In Man - Knowledge Scientific Cipher
This spoken word track provides a moment for reflection as the gifted Cipher
breaks down the creation of the universe and takes us on a journey of knowledge
and life. Unseen Hand - Kinzmen Making their debut on the Birth album
are newcomers Kinzmen who have evolved from the wartorn streets of Redhook
projects (Brooklyn). War Trilogy - Celestial Souljahz This trilogy
takes hip-hop to a new level by transforming the music & lyrics into a visual
soundscape. Listen to the plot of project warfare and revolution as this three-part
story unfolds.
Focus - Freestyle "The track
Focus was trying to relay to brothers the business side of this industry which
people often choose not to talk about" - Freestyle from the Arsonists Threat
of Allegiance - Bless "It was an honor to work along side the other artists
on Birth and to see Baby J, a new artist, give another new artist like myself
a chance to shine. Usually new artists are only out for themselves" - Bless
Pressure - Yogi Hailing from the same area, Baby J's longtime parter
in crime delivers on one of the albums strongest tracks. The gifted Yogi looks
set to take the ghettos of the world by storm. Fire on Water - Fire
This female MC fires ill lyrics over rollin' pianos and punchy beats. "I don't
rap to make people dance, I rap to wake up the minds of man" - Fire
Walk With A Bop - A-Alikes
"The Birth album is a coming back to the essence, a ray of light for the future"
said the A-Alikes of their second track on the album which is also featured
on the B side of the lead off single from the LP. Angels of Death - Yogi
(feat. Freestyle, Shabazz the Disciple and Poetic) This track guest featuring
Freestyle, Shabazz the Disciple and Poetic takes you on an eirie expedition
as all four MCs expose you to the deeds of the angels of death. How Long
- G-Force "At least when I'm dead this will be something for my people
to remember me by" - G-Force The Lambs Blood - Shabazz the Disciple
Already an underground classic, this track showcases Shabazz the Disciple
unleashing an endless chain of jewels. "This album is a blessing cause these
are the next generation of hip-hop. Baby J had a message in his music and
he knew what words it would take to get his message across" - Shabazz the
Disciple Outro - DJ Noize World champion DJ Noize closes the album
with his distinctive style of turntablism.
